@et: I don't think McCain is a decent human being at all, actually. His POW experience 35 years ago, and his campaign finance reform efforts, are the only good things in a very, very long record. They are not good enough.

Hopefully Obama will take his charisma to the polls. This country needs to be taken in a new direction, and McCain's not the one to do it. A return to Clinton-era practical (read: fiscally responsible) progressivism would be a very welcome change.

At this point I truly believe that it doesn't make a difference what McCain does. I think he's a fine person and I have a lot of respect for him. However, Obama is what our country needs in order to move forward and get back to where we used to be. He's taken politics to a new level and made it really about the people. You have to love that as a human being.

The campaign is flagging so they're getting desperate. And McCain's no stranger to trading in his principles to get ahead.

Saying "the other side will try to scare you, highlighting how I'm different from every other president in a number of ways" is not the same as saying "if you don't vote for me, you're racist". The latter is playing the race card, and Obama has never done that.

There's a lot of political mileage to be gained by tapping into a certain type of white resentment against race-card players like Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton... although they're likely to vote Republican anyway.
